ਸੋਰਠਿ ਮਹਲਾ ੧ ॥
सोरठि महला १ ॥
Soraṯẖ mėhlā 1.
Sorat'h, First Mehl:

ਤੂ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਦਾਤਾ ਦਾਨਿ ਮਤਿ ਪੂਰਾ ਹਮ ਥਾਰੇ ਭੇਖਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ॥
तू प्रभ दाता दानि मति पूरा हम थारे भेखारी जीउ ॥
Ŧū parabẖ ḏāṯā ḏān maṯ pūrā ham thāre bẖekẖārī jī▫o.
You, God, are the Giver of gifts, the Lord of perfect understanding; I am a mere beggar at Your Door.

ਮੈ ਕਿਆ ਮਾਗਉ ਕਿਛੁ ਥਿਰੁ ਨ ਰਹਾਈ ਹਰਿ ਦੀਜੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਿਆਰੀ ਜੀਉ ॥੧॥
मै किआ मागउ किछु थिरु न रहाई हरि दीजै नामु पिआरी जीउ ॥१॥
Mai ki▫ā māga▫o kicẖẖ thir na rahā▫ī har ḏījai nām pi▫ārī jī▫o. ||1||
What should I beg for? Nothing remains permanent; O Lord, please, bless me with Your Beloved Name. ||1||

ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਰਵਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਬਨਵਾਰੀ ॥
घटि घटि रवि रहिआ बनवारी ॥
Gẖat gẖat rav rahi▫ā banvārī.
In each and every heart, the Lord, the Lord of the forest, is permeating and pervading.

ਜਲਿ ਥਲਿ ਮਹੀਅਲਿ ਗੁਪਤੋ ਵਰਤੈ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਦੇਖਿ ਨਿਹਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
जलि थलि महीअलि गुपतो वरतै गुर सबदी देखि निहारी जीउ ॥ रहाउ ॥
Jal thal mahī▫al gupṯo varṯai gur sabḏī ḏekẖ nihārī jī▫o. Rahā▫o.
In the water, on the land, and in the sky, He is pervading but hidden; through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, He is revealed. ||Pause||

ਮਰਤ ਪਇਆਲ ਅਕਾਸੁ ਦਿਖਾਇਓ ਗੁਰਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਧਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ॥
मरत पइआल अकासु दिखाइओ गुरि सतिगुरि किरपा धारी जीउ ॥
Maraṯ pa▫i▫āl akās ḏikẖā▫i▫o gur saṯgur kirpā ḏẖārī jī▫o.
In this world, in the nether regions of the underworld, and in the Akaashic Ethers, the Guru, the True Guru, has shown me the Lord; He has showered me with His Mercy.

ਸੋ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਅਜੋਨੀ ਹੈ ਭੀ ਹੋਨੀ ਘਟ ਭੀਤਰਿ ਦੇਖੁ ਮੁਰਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ॥੨॥
सो ब्रहमु अजोनी है भी होनी घट भीतरि देखु मुरारी जीउ ॥२॥
So barahm ajonī hai bẖī honī gẖat bẖīṯar ḏekẖ murārī jī▫o. ||2||
He is the unborn Lord God; He is, and shall ever be. Deep within your heart, behold Him, the Destroyer of ego. ||2||

ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਕਉ ਇਹੁ ਜਗੁ ਬਪੁੜੋ ਇਨਿ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਗਤਿ ਵਿਸਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ॥
जनम मरन कउ इहु जगु बपुड़ो इनि दूजै भगति विसारी जीउ ॥
Janam maran ka▫o ih jag bapuṛo in ḏūjai bẖagaṯ visārī jī▫o.
This wretched world is caught in birth and death; in the love of duality, it has forgotten devotional worship of the Lord.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਤ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਪਾਈਐ ਸਾਕਤ ਬਾਜੀ ਹਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ॥੩॥
सतिगुरु मिलै त गुरमति पाईऐ साकत बाजी हारी जीउ ॥३॥
Saṯgur milai ṯa gurmaṯ pā▫ī▫ai sākaṯ bājī hārī jī▫o. ||3||
Meeting the True Guru, the Guru's Teachings are obtained; the faithless cynic loses the game of life. ||3||

ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਬੰਧਨ ਤੋੜਿ ਨਿਰਾਰੇ ਬਹੁੜਿ ਨ ਗਰਭ ਮਝਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ॥
सतिगुर बंधन तोड़ि निरारे बहुड़ि न गरभ मझारी जीउ ॥
Saṯgur banḏẖan ṯoṛ nirāre bahuṛ na garabẖ majẖārī jī▫o.
Breaking my bonds, the True Guru has set me free, and I shall not be cast into the womb of reincarnation again.

ਨਾਨਕ ਗਿਆਨ ਰਤਨੁ ਪਰਗਾਸਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਮਨਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ॥੪॥੮॥
नानक गिआन रतनु परगासिआ हरि मनि वसिआ निरंकारी जीउ ॥४॥८॥
Nānak gi▫ān raṯan pargāsi▫ā har man vasi▫ā nirankārī jī▫o. ||4||8||
O Nanak, the jewel of spiritual wisdom shines forth, and the Lord, the Formless Lord, dwells within my mind. ||4||8||
